In class today we picked our passages that we were going to write our final response on. My passage had one line that really made me believe that this was a very strong and interesting part of the novel. Eliza says that now she will not only be the protaganist but also the narrator as well.
This I thought spoke volumes because what I think she is saying is that she is now independent. She is from now on writing her whole story by herself. Early on in the novel she had her adoptive family that took care of her, and brought her up in the formal ways. Now after becoming pregnant she has crossed those invisible barriers and can't go back into society. So now as she is making the biggest decision of her life, she is making it alone, and as an independent woman.
I can't wait to read the ending and see what adventures she tackles!
